Game of Thrones SXSW Fan Art Gallery Builds Hype For Season 3
Winter Is Coming (and going, thank goodness), but the good news for Game of Thrones fans with pockets as deep as a Lannister is that in anticipation of the Season 3 premiere, a number of noted artists have contributed to a gallery of professional fan art.
Austin’s Mondo Gallery has put on an exhibition during the annual South By Southwest film and music festival of a wide range of character and ensemble portraits from the HBO show. If you want to own one, however, you may find yourself in more debt than old King Robert Baratheon.
A graphite and watercolor side view of slippery assassin Jaqen H’ghar by Joao Raus would set you back $1,800. An oil on canvas poster of the majority of the cast — with Khaleesi Daenerys, interestingly enough, closest to the Iron Throne — by Sanjulian is listed for $15,000.
The most inexpensive pieces in the gallery are ink and acrylic portraits of The Hound, Sandor Clegane, and Tyrion Lannister, by Warwick Johnson Cadwell and Bruce White, respectively.
Season 3 premieres March 31 on HBO.
