6.3 million people watched the Game of Thrones Season 2 premiere (Episode 1: "The North Remembers") the first night it aired, and its ratings stayed strong for Episode 2: "The Nightlands," so it should come as no surprise that HBO has just announced that it has renewed the hit fantasy drama for a third season.

So far, it appears the plan is for Season 3 to be based on the first half of A Storm of Swords, the third book in the As Song of Ice and Fire series. Trust us, that's a good move — enough happens in that book that there is no way to do it justice in one season. (Seriously, if you think the first two seasons of Game of Thrones are jam packed with amazing plots, you ain't seen nothing yet).
