How do The Powers That Be take George R.R. Martin's epic books and turn them into epic TV episodes? Find out in this behind-the-scenes sneak peek of Game of Thrones Season 3, which starts March 31 on HBO.

As executive story editor/writer Bryan Cogman notes, "In many ways this season is a little more intimate. There are a lot more character-driven scenes where you're really getting under the skin of the characters and finding out what makes them tick." He said that can be even more interesting and exciting than the “flashier” stuff — like say, The Battle of Blackwater from Season 2.

What's great about writing and watching this series, he adds, is "you're never going to see the same thing twice, and the story takes twists and turns that are impossible to foresee." Impossible even if you've read the books? We'll have to find out! They do like to change things, here and there. Season 3 is based on roughly the first half of Double R's third book, A Storm of Swords. There's a lot of juicy stuff in that book, so hopefully they didn't change too much.
