The Red Wedding is coming, which means there will be blood. And death. And scores of shocked viewers.

According to the New York Post, Game of Thrones is about to start filming the infamous Red Wedding scene for its upcoming third season. Fans of the George R.R. Martin books know exactly what this means, but in the interest of not spoiling things for those of you who’ve only seen the HBO series, we’ll merely tease the gory details.

The wedding in question won’t end in a happily ever after.

To that end, a casting notice has gone out in Ireland seeking male amputees who are missing a leg. “You must be OK and comfortable with filming a scene within the context of a battle where your leg has been injured,” the notice says. “Prosthetic makeup will be applied as though your leg has newly been severed.” Grim stuff, no?

Much like Ned Stark’s (Sean Bean) Season 1 death, this grisly scene will be a jaw-dropping game changer. Author George R.R. Martin has even said that he’s planning on fleeing the country before it airs out of fear of the inevitable fan backlash.

"Judging by the reaction that Ned's death got when the television audience saw that, I think I'm going to go to some part of the world where they have no television when a certain episode airs, and I'll hide out and they won't find me at all," he told MTV. "I'll have to hide from the Internet storm as well."

Season 3 will premiere in March 2013 on HBO.
