Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth's growing friendship has been one of the highlights of Game of Thrones Season 3. From odd-couple comedy to soul-baring revelations, their scenes always shine. But Season 3, Episode 6: "The Climb" made it look like the new duo is about to be broken up.

On most shows, fans would assume that the writers would never split a pair that's working so well. But this is Game of Thrones, where dynamics are reshuffled without regard to the viewers' feelings. So, what does happen with Jaime and Brienne?

We haven't seen the next few episodes, but we have read the books. While the show often strays from its source material, it normal stays within the same general outline. So for those of you who want to know — or need a refresher! — we've taken a look at what we can probably expect from Jaime and Brienne, based on A Storm of Swords.

Again, this article contains some major books spoilers, so be warned.

Brienne vs. The Bear. The preview, episode synopsis, and title of Season 3, Episode 7: “The Bear and the Maiden Fair,” all suggest that this episode will feature Brienne's battle against a "formidable foe" — a bear!

In the books (and based on the preview, in the show, too), Jaime leaves Harrenhal, as per Bolton's agreement to send him back to King's Landing to appease Tywin; Brienne, however, is left behind to the whims of her cruel captors. While on the road, Jaime has a meaningful dream about his new friend that prompts him to return to rescue her. And it's a good thing, because she's been thrown in a bear bit with nothing but a blunt tournament sword to defend herself. Jaime jumps into the pit and helps fend off the bear, saving Brienne.

While the specifics of the fight might be changed to make it work for TV, we suspect it will play out in more or less the same way, as it's a major moment from the books, and is important to the development of Jamie and Brienne's relationship. Also, it's awesome.

A Trip to King's Landing. If the TV series continues to follow A Storm of Swords after the bear fight, Brienne and Jaime will next journey to King's Landing. We're not sure how the timing of this will work out, however.

In the books, Jaime doesn't arrive in King's Landing until after Joffrey's death. However, we suspect that Joffrey's wedding (and death) will be held until Season 4. If the showrunners want Jaime and Brienne to arrive in King's Landing at about the same time as they do in the books, that probably means they won't have much to do in the last few episodes of this season. We wouldn't be surprised to see their presence cut back to a few short scenes here and there for the remainder of Season 3.

At King's Landing. Once they do go back to King's Landing, here are a couple of the major Brienne and Jaime moments from the books that we can probably (though not definitely) expect to see on the show, in either Season 3 or (more likely) 4:

-  Brienne and Loras have a confrontation over Renly, since Loras still thinks Brienne killed Renly; Jaime intervenes. After a few scenes of mediation, he eventually gets Loras to concede Brienne may be innocent. In the books Loras had joined the Kingsguard by this point, and has to listen to Jaime, who is still Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. Loras's story has already been tweaked on the show (in the books, there's another Tyrell brother involved in the marriage plots); we're not sure if or when he'll join the Kingsguard on the show.

We could definitely see the writers cutting this subplot, since it's not that important overall. But it's also Brienne's main story for the rest of the book, so we're not sure what else they'd do with her.

- Near the end of the book, after the Red Wedding results in Catelyn's death and Sansa has run away with Littlefinger, Jaime sends Brienne on a mission to find and protect the Stark girls. This will almost certainly happen on the show, though the exact scene might look different.

- There is also a lot more that happens with Jaime in King's Landing over the course of ASOS. We wouldn't be surprised to see Brienne incorporated into more of his scenes on the show.
