Looking for scoop on Game of Thrones character Bran Stark? We’ve got all the latest Bran pics, spoilers, videos, and news right here!
The second youngest of the Stark clan, Game of Thrones’ Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) is a boy shouldered with massive responsibility. Paralyzed after a fall (cough, push) from a Winterfell window, he must learn to live with his disability as his family and home are torn apart. Though he has lost the use of his legs, he is slowly gaining the use of greensight, prophetic dreams.
When we meet him in Season 1, Bran is a carefree boy who likes climbing the Winterfell walls. His hobby turns nearly fatal when he happens upon Jaime and Cersei Lannister in the midst of an incestuous liaison. Jaime pushes him off the castle, but Bran survives - without the use of his legs. With his parents and sisters away, Bran adjusts to his condition while his older brother, Robb, rules over Winterfell. When Ned Stark is arrested for treason, Robb gathers men for his rescue, leaving Bran to rule Winterfell and look after their younger brother, Rickon. He is assisted in his responsibilities by Maester Luwin and Osha, a wildling from North of the wall. He moves around with the help of Hodor, a simple-minded servant, and a modified saddle given to him by Tyrion Lannister. He is also protected by his direwolf, Summer. When Ned is executed in King’s Landing, Bran sees him in his dream.
In Season 2, Bran gains the ability to see through his direwolf’s eyes while dreaming. Osha helps him to understand his abilities. Theon Greyjoy, former Stark hostage ward, captures Winterfell and has Bran surrender the castle to keep his people alive. Bran escapes, along with Osha, Hodor, and Rickon. Theon, unable to recapture them, kills two local farmboys and presents their charred corpses as proof that Bran and Rickon are dead. Winterfell is reclaimed by men of the North, but it has been sacked and abandoned. A dying Master Luwin instructs the Stark boys to seek refuge at the Wall.
Season 3 sees Bran and co. headed north and Bran continuing to experience vivid dreams. The motley crew is joined by Meera and Jojen Reed, siblings loyal to the Starks. Jojen also has the sight, and helps Bran to understand his abilities. Eventually they reach the Wall. Bran sends Osha and Rickon south, and the rest of the gang heads north of the Wall to find the "three-eyed raven," per Jojen's instructions.
