Brienne of Tarth

Looking for scoop on Game of Thrones character Brienne of Tarth? We’ve got all the latest Brienne pics, spoilers, videos, and news right here!

One of the few women who can wield a sword on HBO's Game of Thrones, Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), of House Tarth, is the closest thing the show has to a truly honorable knight in shining armor.

We first met Brienne in Season 2, when she won her way onto Renly's Kingsguard. She was clearly in love with her king, though of course Renly, who was gay and in love with Loras, did not return her affections. Brienne was forced to flee Renly's camp along with Cartley Stark after Melisandre's murderous shadow monster slaughtered Renly while Brienne was in his tent, making her look like the culprit.

On the road, Cat and Brienne bonded, and Brienne ended up swearing an oath of fealty to Cat. Eventually Cat bequeaths her with a mission: Get Jaime Lannister to King's Landing, and trade him for the Stark daughters.

Season 3 began with Brienne carrying out this mission, but it quickly went awry after she and Jaime were captured by Locke, one of Lord Bolton's men. Brienne came very close to being raped by Locke's men, but Jaime saved her with his quick wit. Later, after he lost his hand, she managed to convince him to keep living. He then opened up to her in the very memorable bath scene. Later, Jaime rescued her when Locke threw her in a bear pit, and they traveled to King's Landing together.

Brienne was introduced in Season 2, Episode 3: "What Is Dead May Never Die."
