Jaime Lannister

Looking for scoop on Game of Thrones character Jaime Lannister? We’ve got all the latest Jaime pics, spoilers, videos, and news right here!

The charming half of HBO's Game of Thrones’ best odd-couple duo, Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is a character in flux. Pride of Tywin Lannister's eye, knight of the Kingsguard, Kingslayer, sister-lover — Jaime plays many roles, and they've all been thrown into question.

We were introduced to Jaime as a cocky villain in Season 1, a legendary sword fighter who had once killed the king he was sworn to protect, sleeps with his twin sister (Cersei), and was willing to push Bran Stark out of a window to keep that secret. Over the course of the season we were shown occasional cracks in that persona, but mostly he kept it up, even attacking Ned Stark in the middle of the street after Catelyn Stark kidnapped Tyrion Lannister. Near the end of the season Jaime joined the fight against Robb Stark and was captured.

In Season 2, Jaime spent most of his time as Robb's prisoner. Beyond one memorable escape attempt, he didn't do much until Catelyn freed him, tasking Brienne of Tarth with returning him to King's Landing in exchange for her daughters. Jaime and Brienne began their snark-filled journey south.

In Season 3, Jaime and Brienne's journey was interrupted when they were caught by Locke, one of Lord Bolton's men. Jaime used his wits to save Brienne from brutal rape by Locke's men, but when he pushed his luck and tried to buy his freedom, Locke cut off his sword hand. This sent Jaime spiraling into depression as he struggled to figure out who he is without his fighting ability. He also grew closer to Brienne, revealing the truth behind why he killed the Mad King. Lord Bolton tried to send Jaime back to King's Landing in an attempt to appease Tywin Lannister, while allowing Locke to keep Brienne behind. However, Jaime turned back and rescued Brienne from a terrible fate, and they traveled to King's Landing together.

Jaime was introduced in Season 1, Episode 1: "Winter Is Coming."

Memorable Quotes (and moments)

- The bath scene. All of it.

- "There are no men like me. Only me."

- "He said the same thing he'd been saying for hours: Burn them all."

- "Tell me, if I stabbed the Mad King is the belly instead of the back, would you admire me more?"

- "The boy won't talk. And if he does, I'll kill him. Him, Ned Stark, the King, the whole bloody lot of them until you and I are the only people left in this world."

- "Five hundred men stood here and watched. All the great knights of the seven kingdoms. Do you think anyone said a word, lifted a finger? No, Lord Stark, 500 men and this room was silent as a crypt. Except for the screams, of course, and the Mad King laughing. And, later, when I watched the Mad King die, I remembered him laughing as your father burned. It felt like justice."
