Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish

Looking for scoop on Game of Thrones character Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish?  We’ve got all the latest Littlefinger pics, spoilers, videos, and news right here!

Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish (played by Aiden Gillen), is one of HBO's Game of Thrones' most ambitious and conniving characters — and that’s saying something`. Hailing from a minor holding, Littlefinger has ascended the political ladder, serving in the Small Council as the Master of Coin and being named Lord of Harrenhal. A master manipulator and financier, Littlefinger uses his network of brothels to gather information.

Littlefinger is introduced in Season 1, Episode 3: “Lord Snow” when he greets Ned Stark in King’s Landing. Littlefinger grew up with Catelyn Stark, Ned’s wife, and agrees to help the Starks expose the Lannisters for the attempted murder of their son. When Ned also discovers that Joffrey Baratheon is not King Robert Baratheon’s true heir, Littlefinger vows to stand with him. However, he betrays Ned in favor of supporting the Lannisters and watches as Ned is executed for treason. Harsh.

In Season 2, Littlefinger is tasked with offering Catelyn a prisoner exchange: Sansa Stark and Arya Stark for Jaime Lannister. Catelyn is less than pleased to see Littlefinger, who she partially blames for her husband’s death. He tells her that he has always loved her (awkward), but she is less than receptive. When King Renly Baratheon is killed, Littlefinger arranges a marriage between his widow, Margaery Tyrell, and King Joffrey. The deal gives the royal army enough men to defeat King Stannis’ attack on King’s Landing, and Littlefinger is rewarded with Harrenhal.

Season 3 sees Littlefinger basking in the glow of his ascension to Lord of Harrenhal. He is tasked with marrying Lysa Arryn, Catelyn’s sister and another childhood companion. Tywin Lannister hopes the marriage will keep the Vale of Arryn from supporting Robb Stark in the war. Littlefinger creepily offers to sneak Sansa out of the city and back to Winterfell on his way to the Vale, but she declines because she believes she will marry Loras Tyrell.

Also important: Littlefinger has had an ongoing battle of wits and manipulation with Lord Varys, another member of the Small Council. The two respect each other’s skills as master manipulators, but have different end goals. While Varys claims to use his talents to improve the realm, Littlefinger seeks power for himself.

Memorable Quotes (and Moments):

— On duty: “When The Queen proclaims one King and the King's Hand proclaims another, whose peace do the Goldcloaks protect? Who do they follow? The man who pays them.”

— On Starks: “Ah, the Starks! Quick tempers, slow minds.”

— Upon betraying Ned Stark: “I did warn you not to trust me.”

— On strategy: “You know what I learned, losing that duel? I learned that I'll never win. Not that way. That's their game, their rules. I'm not going to fight them: I'm going to fuck them. That's what I know, that's what I am, and only by admitting what we are can we get what we want.”

— On chaos: “Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some, given a chance to climb, they cling to the realm, or the gods, or love. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is.”
