Before taking on the role of Margaery Tyrell in HBO’s Game of Thrones, British actress Natalie Dormer was perhaps best known for her portrayal of Anne Boleyn in Showtime’s The Tudors.

However, before she was a TV starlet, Natalie had dreams of studying history. Born in Reading, Berkshire, Natalie was quite the academic from a young age. While attending Reading Blue Coat School, she was head-girl, a straight-A student, vice-captain of the school netball team, she studied dance and travelled the world with her school's public speaking team. She dreamed of studying history at Cambridge, but she did not score high enough on her A-level history exam to attend.

So Natalie decided to study drama instead. She trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London, and shortly after graduation, Natalie auditioned and won the role of Victoria in the 2005 film Casanova, starring Heath Ledger and Sienna Miller. She gave such a strong comedic performance that Disney Touchstone offered her a three-film deal, which she has yet to complete.

In 2007, she was cast as Anne Boleyn in the first two seasons of The Tudors. Despite her character’s death at the end of the second season, she returned to the Showtime series as Anne Boleyn in a dream sequence for the fourth and final season in mid-2010.

After being cast in the lead role of the film adaptation of Shadowland in 2010, Natalie joined the cast of HBO’s Game of Thrones as Margaery Tyrell of House Tyrell in June 2011. She made her debut in Season 2, Episode 3: “What Is Dead May Never Die.”

Natalie most recently booked a three-episode arc on CBS’s Elementary, where she will star as Irene Adler.
