Game of Thrones is catching up to A Song of Ice and Fire very quickly these days, and threatening more and more to overtake the book storylines with each new episode. With two books still left to complete in the series, lots of pressure has been directed toward the series author, George R. R. Martin, to complete the next book in the series, but might he also be working on the last book simultaneously?
Sorry to disappoint you, but that’s not the case. TMZ caught up with Martin out and about in LA and asked him if he’d started writing the last book yet, and Martin was quick to call out the interviewer’s lack of knowledge on the subject. “I’m not even working on the last book yet, I’m working on the next to last book,” the author clarifies. Any hope that Martin was working on both The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring as one big volume to be released in quick succession just went out the window.
Martin was also asked if the last book would be finished before the TV series, to which Martin replies, “Who the hell knows?” Not a great vote of confidence, George. You can view the entire interaction here, where Martin actually shows pretty good restraint against a paparazzo who admits he hasn’t read any of Martin’s books.
