Winter is coming. Specifically, the Winter Olympics, and Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage will be on hand to help usher them in.
Jim Bell, the executive producer of the Olympics for NBC, announced on Twitter that Dinklage will be providing the voiceover for the teaser leading into NBC’s opening ceremony coverage, to air Friday, February 7th at 7:30 pm EST. Interestingly enough, Bell’s tweet also included the hashtags: “#winteriscoming” and “#GameOfThrones,” showing true Olympic spirit by plugging a rival network’s show.
While the opening ceremony, now with 100 percent more Dinklage, won’t be seen until Friday, NBC will actually be airing the first sporting events of the games Thursday night, with early rounds of figure skating, skiing, and snowboarding all airing in primetime.
Will Peter Dinklage give any clues about the upcoming season of GoT during his Olympic broadcast? Will he spill the beans on why Tyrion is being paraded around in handcuffs in the trailer? Probably not, but a dramatic reading from Dinklage should be enough to get anyone pumped up for the Games, even if it is spoiler-free.
And just in case hearing the voice of Tyrion gives you serious GoT withdrawals, fear not, Season 4 premieres in exactly two months, on April 6th at 9:00 pm EST, on HBO.
