George R.R. Martin on Game of Thrones Catching Up to the Books: “It’s Alarming” (VIDEO)

Game of Thrones begins its fourth season on HBO in less than a month, and its conclusion will presumably leave the story somewhere in the realm of the fourth and fifth books of A Song of Ice and Fire, the novel series which the show is based on. With two massive books still left to be written, what does series author George R. R. Martin think of the prospect of the show catching up to what he’s already written?

“It’s alarming,” Martin tells Vanity Fair in their latest issue, which features several of the show’s cast members on its cover. The show’s creators, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, recently had a meeting with Martin in which they received details on where each character’s story ends up, but Martin remains optimistic that he can still stay ahead of them. “I can give them the broad strokes of what I intend to write, but the details aren’t there yet. I’m hopeful that I can not let them catch up with me.”

With Martin’s next book showing no signs of release anytime soon, save for a recently released paragraph, we have no choice but to have blind faith in Martin. You can do it, George!

What do you think? Will Game of Thrones catch up to A Song of Ice and Fire? Check out the video above, and sound off in the comments!
