Giuliana Rancic: “Russell Crowe Was So Mean to Me” in “Awkward” Interview

Russell Crowe isn’t known for his sweet disposition, and E!'s Giuliana Rancic got a taste of his sour side a few years ago.

Giuliana recalled the experience last night on Watch What Happens Live!, when discussing her most awkward red carpet interviews. "There have been a lot of awkward ones," Giuliana said (via E! News). "Oh I know… duh! Russell Crowe!"

As she explained to Bravo host Andy Cohen, "Russell Crowe was so mean to me. I had been at E! for a year and I thought, 'I'm going to go easy because he's pretty tough.' And so I said, 'Are you excited to be here - your big movie premiere.' And he goes, 'I'm contractually obligated to be here. What's your next question?'" Nice. Bet his film's director and producers loved that enthusiasm. Giuliana continued, "And I go, 'OK, um, isn't it so wonderful to see all the fans?' And he goes, 'That's your second question?' And then he goes, 'One, two, you're through' and walked away."

Maybe he was contractually obligated to be rude, too — or maybe he thought he was being witty or just keeping up his “bad boy” persona. Meh.

Russell isn't the only celeb to be ambivalent about fame, but everything in life is a trade-off and it doesn't seem like a lot to ask to answer questions about your own projects politely. Some stars even want to discuss their own films and say something nice about the fans. Besides, what was she supposed to ask at a film premiere — “How would you solve the debt crisis?” At least she didn’t ask about his personal life. He might’ve thrown a phone at her at that point!
