Giuliana Rancic Wants More Kids, Shares Secrets to 6 Years With Husband Bill — Exclusive

Giuliana Rancic endured a difficult and public journey to motherhood in 2012, but it was all worth it for her 1-year-old son, Duke. The E! News correspondent and husband Bill Rancic are overjoyed with their little one — especially his adorable milestones.

When Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Giuliana at the Fashion Police taping and Benefit Cosmetics’ “They’re REAL-Volutionary” Awards on September 4 in New York City, she couldn’t stop raving about her son, who recently celebrated his first birthday, and her big six-year anniversary with Bill. Below, she dishes about some of Duke’s latest developments (including his adorable way of communicating), keeping her relationship strong in the reality TV world, and their family’s future. Spoiler alert: She wants more kids!

Wetpaint Entertainment: You had a long road to having Duke. Are you thinking about expanding your family?

Giuliana Rancic: We’d love to. Really, it all comes down to timing, and it’s so crazy right now. We just want to make sure it’s the right time, that we have the time in our day to bring in another baby into our family, because it’s the right thing to do and it’s not an accessory. We don’t want to be selfish. We take this very seriously, as everyone should, but not everyone does. We take it very seriously and we know it’s a huge responsibility. It’s a ton of work; it’s rewarding, but it’s a ton of work. We just want to make sure we’re ready.

Did you dream of having little siblings for Duke to take care of?

Yeah! Absolutely. I’d love to have more. I’d love to have more for him.

Do you have any milestones for Duke? I know he’s talking a little more.

Yeah, he talks a lot! A lot of it is like babbling.

So, no full words yet?

No, but he does say “mama-ma-ma” and “baba-ba-ba.” He’s so cute. He’s the best. But not really full words. But if you say, “Duke, where’s your tongue?” he sticks out his tongue. “Duke, where’s your head?” he puts his hand on his head. “Where’s your nose?” he kind of punches his nose blindly. It’s really cute.

You also celebrated a big milestone: six years with your husband, Bill! Not many couples in the industry, especially reality TV, can survive that long. What are your secrets? What’s kept you going for so long?

You know what it is? It’s funny, people always ask and wonder why our relationship is still so strong and we have a reality show, because usually when you have a reality show, it rips people apart. But I think the secret to having a successful reality marriage is you have to start with a strong foundation. Because reality shows accelerate the relationship, so if you have a strong relationship, it will kind of help you because you’re doing good things and it’s easy. But when you have a shaky relationship, it accelerates it and you might break up sooner. So, with us, we’ve always had a very strong foundation, and we’re just best friends! Bill is my husband, but he’s my best friend and I’m obsessed with him. Even just today, I’m like, “You look really hot, honey. Like, hot.” And I think what happens when you get married and you’re together for a long time, you don’t tell each other that anymore, and it’s important to hear that.

And not take them for granted.

Yeah! And it’s important to hear that you are hot, you’re sexy, you’re smart, you’re thoughtful, and we constantly compliment each other and just work out what we’re doing right, what we’re doing wrong in the relationship. And so we’re very on top of the relationship.

And what could go wrong, you don’t let it happen.

We’re proactive, not reactive. A lot of people are reactive — they only react when something is going wrong in the relationship. We are proactive and we try to do everything we can to keep something from going off.

You played a little newlywed game on E! recently. For those little things, do you think remembering them helps, too?

Yeah, you’ve gotta remember the little things. Absolutely. We reminisce all the time. For our anniversary over the weekend, we went to Chicago and we were talking about how we used to take these long runs when we first met and were dating. We took long runs in Chicago on the lakefront and we would plan our future out, and it’s nice to talk about that and reminisce and not forget that, and let each other know that you’re not forgetting it.
