Glee’s 9 p.m. Thursday Competition Is Intense: Will You Still Watch?

We sometimes forget that there are other shows besides Glee on TV, given our single-minded devotion to the best show ever. But apparently, there are other shows on TV and now several new ones are competing against Glee in its time slot. Gulp.

Thursday nights tend to be when some of the highest-profile shows air; movie studios often want to run a lot of ads on the night in order to entice viewers to new films over the weekend, so networks aim to set the highest ad rates they can for this slate of commercials. And this upcoming fall season is no exception, as three of the most highly anticipated new sitcoms will be airing opposite Glee Season 5.

Joining the fray is The Crazy Ones on CBS, which stars Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar and will air at 9 p.m. And over on NBC, two more big stars hit the small screen, with the Sean Hayes sitcom, Sean Saves the World, at 9 p.m., followed by The Michael J. Fox Show starring the famous star at 9:30 p.m.

There are also a pair of notable dramas in the time slot. ABC's venerable Grey's Anatomy will be airing its tenth season, while the CW is premiering a new period drama called Reign.

Whew. That's a lot of buzz-worthy shows. Also worth mentioning is the fact that Glee fan-favorite Mike O'Malley's (Burt Hummel) new sitcom, Welcome to the Family, airs at 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays over on NBC, which is pretty darn close to competing with Glee. Not cool, NBC!

Okay, so Gleeks are known for being loyal, and with the exception of the somewhat long-in-the-tooth Grey's, there's nothing up against Glee this season that is a proven hit just yet. And Glee is already guaranteed another season after this one, so we're guessing this season's ratings aren't too big of a concern.

We'll concede that R-Will, Sean, SMG, and Michael J. are some pretty heavy hitters to go up against but they aren't going to be singing and dancing. So there's that. Okay, moment of truth: Let us know if you're definitely going to be watching Glee, or if you might scope out the competition to see if you should switch to something else. And if you opt for the latter, we won't judge you (all that much).
