The Glee Project Officially Canceled — Is Glee Next?
It’s been a really awful week for Glee fans, no bones about it. With the sudden passing of one of our most beloved stars, to everything that comes after that, we’ve gone through more than a year’s supply of Kleenex. And it’s only Tuesday. Strangely, the loss of our dear Cory Monteith (Finn) has colored everything, so news today that The Glee Project was officially canceled feels less painful.
Oxygen released a statement saying, "The Glee Project will not be returning to Oxygen but we are extremely proud of this series which launched the careers of several talented individuals. The show had so much heart and we thank Ryan Murphy and all of the creative talent who helped make the series a critical darling.”
We were huge fans of the show, which featured various Glee stars, including Cory, who served as mentors for contestants. We of course wondered if Cory’s passing influenced the decision to axe the show, but Oxygen has made it clear that the decision has nothing to do with the tragic loss.
No matter the ultimate reason for cancellation, we’ll be sad to spend another summer without watching some new stars being born while hanging with our favorites. Without TGP, we won’t have the personal connection to the newbies we did with Blake and Damian, wherein we felt like we had watched them grow into themselves on their way up.
Normally, we probably wouldn’t be as emotional about this, but considering that Glee is going through such a hard time, we're a little worried. With The Glee Project gone, should we be worried that Glee is next?
