Fans first met Massachusetts-based Glee hopeful Alex Newell (Unique) during Season 1 of Oxygen’s reality series, The Glee Project. With a flair for fashion and a powerful, diva-like voice, Alex quickly set himself apart as an interesting mix of both Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Mercedes (Amber Riley). He made it to the final four contenders, but ended up losing to Damian McGinty (Rory) and Samuel Larsen (Joe). However, both Alex and fellow runner-up Lindsay Pearce (Harmony) still walked away with 2-episode stints on Glee Season 3. Producers liked his character so much that they decided to have him transfer to Mckinley High School for Season 4 and join the New Directions. Not bad for a runner up!
