It’s a sad day for Glee fans. When the show returns for Season 5 this September, not 1 or 2 heck, not even 3 or 4 but a grand total of FIVE original cast members will be missing. Yes,  you read that right. Five.

TV Line reports that Heather Morris (Brittany), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Mark Salling (Puck), Amber Riley (Mercedes) and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) will not be returning as series regulars. We’ll give you a moment to let that sink in.

You good? Okay, now let’s take a moment to think this over a bit. Just because these five won’t be series regulars, that doesn’t necessarily mean they will be gone for good. Last time we checked, you can still be on a show even if you’re not a regular. You just don’t get to be on it nearly as much.

Come to think of it, were any of these people other than Heather actually considered series regulars at all last year? We don’t think so. They may have popped in for a couple of episodes here or there, but that could hardly be considered full-time status.

Unfortunately, TV Line does not provide any details on exactly how many episodes we can expect to see the ousted characters take part. The only words used are “occasional guest stars” and a “possible guest appearance.” Based on that, we’d say they aren’t entirely gone for good... but still pretty dang close.

Are you heartbroken to hear the news, or is it not as bad as you would have thought? Granted, we would have loved to see Heather, Dianna, and Co. get more screentime next year... but we could have easily guessed that that wasn’t in the cards.

Oh well, at least Rachel (Lea Michele), Finn (Cory Monteith), Santana (Naya Rivera) and Kurt (Chris Colfer) are still there. Plus, Blaine (Darren Criss), Artie (Kevin McHale) and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz). Yeah, we can make peace with this news. We don’t necessarily like it, but we think we’ll be able to adjust.
