UPDATE: Vancouver police confirm that the 31-year-old male found dead is indeed Cory Monteith (Finn), dead of an apparent drug overdose. According to the official police statement, "Shortly after noon today, the Vancouver Police received a call from the BC Ambulance Service regarding a sudden death in a room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel at 1038 Canada Place in downtown Vancouver."

Police report that while Cory had been with others in his room the previous night, security cameras indicate he was alone at the time of his death. When Cory missed his check-out time, hotel staff entered the room and discovered his body. According to the police representative, there were no signs of foul play. While VPD would not confirm or deny whether drug paraphernalia was present in the room, given Cory's April stint in rehab for substance abuse, it seems safe to us to assume that his death was drug-related.

An autopsy will be performed on Monday to determine the official cause of death.

We join the Vancouver police in extending our condolences to Cory's family — both his biological family and his Glee family — for this incredible loss.

Original post: We’ve just learned the tragic news that Glee’s Cory Monteith (Finn) was found dead in Vancouver, Canada tonight. The Globe Canada reports the 31-year-old was found in the Fairmont Pacific Rim earlier today.

Vancouver police will hold a press conference later tonight; there’s no information as to what may have caused his death.

The Glee star had entered rehab for substance abuse issues earlier this year. According to a previous statement from his rep, Cory struggled with drugs and alcohol in the past. He’d also been in rehab over 10 years ago at the age of 19.

After a month in rehab, Cory checked himself out and made his first public appearance in April. Photographers spotted him at LAX airport in Los Angeles, appearing to be headed out of the country on a vacation with his co-star girlfriend Lea Michele (Rachel) after spending quality time in Canada with Cory’s family.

“[S]ending out big love to everyone. thank you for the continued support! It means the world to me! :),” Cory tweeted at the time.

This is truly tragic news. Our thoughts are with Cory’s friends and family.
