Though Cory Monteith’s (Finn) relationship with on- and off-screen girlfriend Lea Michele (Rachel) is the most present in our minds, his other co-stars are also in our thoughts. Cory’s Glee mentor Matthew Morrison (Mr. Schuester) showed his love for the younger actor extended beyond a script when he dedicated a song to his fallen co-star on Sunday, July 14.

The 34-year-old portrayer of McKinley High’s glee club teacher played a set at Manhattan’s 54 Below, a day after Cory was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room. To honor the 31-year-old Cory, whom Matthew called a “brother,” he performed the song “What I Did For Love,” from A Chorus Line.

The song appeared on Glee in Season 2, and was performed a cappella by the recently-engaged Matt at the Manhattan club. While the mood must have been somewhat somber, Matt addressed the loss of Glee’s biggest male star by saying, “You guys came to see a show, I came to perform a show, so that’s what we’ll do. And we’ll do it in Cory’s honor.”

The show included jazz standards and Broadway standards, and he reportedly danced and quipped on stage during the show. We’re happy to hear that the people close to Cory are able to go on with their lives, at least somewhat.

Here are the lyrics to the song. Do you see why Matthew picked it for Cory?:

Kiss today goodbye,

The sweetness and the sorrow.

Wish me luck, the same to you.

But I can't regret

What I did for love, what I did for love.

Look my eyes are dry.

The gift was ours to borrow.

It's as if we always knew,

And I won't forget what I did for love,

What I did for love.

Gone,

Love is never gone.

As we travel on,

Love's what we'll remember.

Kiss today goodbye,

And point me t'ward tomorrow.

We did what we had to do.

Won't forget, can't regret

What I did for

Love

What I did for

Love

What I did for...

Love

Love is never gone

As we travel one

Love's what we'll remember

Kiss today goodbye.

And point me t'ward tomorrow.

Point me t'ward tomorrow

We did what we had to do.

Won't forget, can't regret

What I did for love.

What I did for love.

What I did for love

Love
