Adding to the sadness surrounding the sudden passing of Cory Monteith (Finn) on July 13 is the fact that his career had been getting hotter than ever. So when will the Glee star’s two recently completed films be released?
Cory’s final film was an action flick called McCanick, which filmed last fall and also stars David Morse and Mike Vogel. In the film, Cory plays Simon, a drug-addicted convict who has spent seven years behind bars. The film does not currently have a release date, but Cory attended a screening of the completed film with the movie’s director three weeks ago.
"He had expressed that he was kind of going through a rough time, but that he was feeling better about it," McCanick director Josh Waller tells ET Canada. “And then when I saw him at the screening, he wrote me a really sweet email."
“He was very vocal about his past, and said he wanted to tap into things from his youth that he hadn't been able to use as an actor yet,” Josh tells the L.A. Times about Cory’s gritty role in the film.
Cory — who was last seen in 2011’s Monte Carlo — also filmed a dramedy in Canada last year called All the Wrong Reasons, which has recently been completed and will screen at festivals soon. In this film, Cory plays a store manager who is struggling to keep his marriage together.
“When I last saw him at the screening, he looked super fit, had a lot of energy,” director Gia Milani tells EW. “I think that’s why this is such a tremendous shock. He seemed to be doing so well.”
“I am going to miss that grin,” Gia continues about Cory. We are, too — but at least we should be able to see him on the big screen again soon.
