Though plenty of Glee crew members and supporting actors took to Twitter to react to the shocking news of leading man Cory Monteith’s (Finn) untimely death, the show’s most visible stars stayed surprisingly quiet.
A few of them, like Naya Rivera (Santana) and Dianna Agron (Quinn) released public statements through their reps, but everyone stayed radio silent on Twitter. Now, over five days after the world first learned of Cory’s passing, two of the core Glee stars have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts.
Amber Riley (Mercedes) broke her silence first, writing on July 18, “Yesterday I got to sit with my Glee family and remember a man I considered a brother and friend. With a very heavy heart, RIP Cory Monteith.”
Naya also took to Twitter, addressing the situation in a less direct way. “Getting back to feeling like myself again thanks to a relaxing London Town pamper day. Thank you for all of the support this week,” she wrote.
As heartbreaking as the news of Cory’s death is, we love to see how the Glee cast is coming together to support each other in this difficult time. On July 16, Dianna and Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) were spotted hugging Glee crew member Aristotle “Telly” Kousakis, presumably at the same group meeting Amber referenced in her tweet.
Filming for Glee Season 5 was supposed to begin this week, but has been tabled as writers and producers hold emergency meetings to discuss the best way to write Finn Hudson off the show. For now, it’s looking like the show’s September 2013 premiere could get pushed back for as much as a few months. The one bit of positive news in all of this? There is no indication that Glee will be cancelled completely.
