Charice says the "defining moment" of she and Cory's friendship was on May 9, 2011, when they were shooting Glee late one night.

"I was a tad emotional when the clock struck 12 midnight — not because I was tired — but because May 10 was my birthday," Charice remembers. "And I, a girl from the barrio of Gulod in the far-flung Philippines, was alone in America."

But just before getting to sad, Charice says Cory "came to the rescue, just in time, with his sweet greeting: 'Happy birthday, Charice!'" The actress said a huge smile crossed his face and he gave her a tight hug, instantly "becoming family to me at that moment."

When she heard of Cory's passing, Charice says her "body went cold" and she says she is mourning with the many fans Cory had in the Philippines.

"I am confident he's singing with the angels now," Charice says. "I am more than confident that his suave style, his cool attitude about everything will endear him more to his new-found winged friends in the afterlife."

As for her last thoughts on Cory, it's a simple thank you. "Thank you, Mr. Cool. My grateful heart will always miss you — especially so on my birthday."
