Together, Lea Michele (Rachel) and her boyfriend Cory Monteith (Finn) were conquering the world. Both skyrocketed to fame with their roles on Glee, and the two co-stars — whose characters’ love story was Glee central romance — ended up finding love off-screen, as well.

Now, as Lea must try to come to terms with her boyfriend’s sudden and tragic passing on July 13, People reports that the 26-year-old actress is having a hard time trying to picture the future without him.

“She’s really at a loss to even envision her future,” an unnamed friend of Lea’s tells the magazine the print edition of its July 25 issue.

Friends reveal that Lea was “distraught” and “inconsolable” when she first heard the news of Cory’s death. When the Glee actress traveled to be with Cory’s family in Vancouver, she flew on a private jet  so that she could stay under the radar, and she’s made absolutely no public appearances since news of Cory’s death of what we’d later learn was a heroin overdose was first announced.

Though Lea knew her boyfriend had a history of substance abuse that included heroin use, a friend tells People she wanted to believe that it was all behind him. What’s more, the friend says that Cory was “very good at hiding his addiction.”

While other sources have been reporting that Lea is struggling with feelings like she might somehow be to blame, People says that friends who have battled addiction are making sure she knows that this is just not the case.

“They’re explaining to her the mind of an addict,” the close friend says, “trying to tell her it’s not her fault. There’s nothing she could have done differently.”
