Pop princess Demi Lovato makes her big debut on Glee this Thursday as Dani, a hot new love interest for Santana (Naya Rivera). But in addition to Dani, there are plenty of other new characters joining Glee for Season 5. Ss the show tries to figure out how to adjust after Cory Monteith's (Finn) sudden and tragic passing, one of the ways it is dealing with everything is to cast a whole slew of new characters.
We’ve been keeping track of all of the casting reports coming out. There plenty of new characters, though it's important to not that during the casting process, characters can easily be changed, altered, or scrapped entirely. Even if the characters below do end up making it onto the show, they very well could end up with an entirely different name than they started it.
So take a moment to get to know the newbies, but don’t get too attached. Any of these characters could be done away with as storylines change.
An African-American student at McKinley High School. (Update: We now know that this is Bree (Erinn Westbrook) the new "mean girl" Cheerio who made her debut in Glee's Season 5 premiere. In the interest of secrecy, details about her bratty nature were kept under wraps. Nice one, Glee! Tricky.)
A twenty-something girl, likely based in NYC, who is cute and quirky. A major recurring guest star who will first appear in Season 5, Episode 2. [NOTE: This character may have been replaced by Demi Lovato's Dani.]
A twenty-something girl, likely based in NYC, who must be able to sing and play guitar. [NOTE: This character may have been replaced by Demi Lovato's Dani.]
Adam Lambert’s character
The American Idol Season 8 runner-up has been cast for what appears to be more than just a one-time guest spot. So far, we know that he makes his debut in Glee's November 7 Katy Perry/Lady Gaga, episode, Season 5, Episode 4: "A Katy or a Gaga," and rumors around the interwebs are saying his character's name is... "Starchild." Adam will be singing a singing a Lady Gaga song, as well as performing another musical number alongside Lea Michele (Rachel),Chris Colfer (Kurt), and Naya Rivera (Santana). Rumor has it that they're all singing Katy Perry's "Roar." Oh, and Starchild is rumored to be Kurt's new nemesis! We can't wait to see these two go head-to-head.
A talented and theatrical forty-something with a huge ego. [Update: This character could have been changed to Paolo, the Broadway star Rachel auditioned with in Glee's Season 5 premiere, played by British actor Ioan Guffudd.]
A handsome and intelligent academic in his 40s or 50s.

Uh oh. Someone in the New Directions is headed for a whole world of pain. E! News writes that Glee will introduce Robbie in Season 5, Episode 5, an that he's “a new jock/bully" who will start to make "life very difficult for one of the glee kids.,”
Also in Episode 5, one of the characters in New York City will be getting a tattoo — yep, a tattoo — from Louis, “a hip and cool tattoo artist." If we had to guess, we'd venture that Rachel (Lea Michele) might be getting a tattoo in memory of her late boyfriend, Finn (Cory Monteith). But that's not confirmed, so we guess we'll have to just wait and see!

New Male Lead
E! News reports that the show is casting a new male character who will show up in New York City. Obviously, no one could EVER replace Finn Hudson, but it appears that a new guy will be coming to NYC. Will he be a love interest for Rachel, though? Honestly, we hope not. At least not yet. After Finn's death, Rachel is going to need some time to heal.
Demi Lovato's Dani
Pop princess Demi Lovato will play Dani, a “struggling artist friend of Rachel and Santana’s,” TV Line reports. Demi will first appear in Season 5, Episode 2, the second part of the two-part Beatles tributeepisode. She'll sing a duet of "Here Comes the Sun" with Santana... and it's already been confirmed that the two characters will kiss! No one will ever be able to replace Brittana, but we have to say, the idea of Dantana is making is us pretty excited!
Bree, an Nasty New Cheerio
Tired of Kitty (Becca Tobin) being the only McKinley Cheerio we get to see on a daily basis? Well, worry no longer. Season 5 is adding a snarky and mean new Cheerio named Bree, played by actress, model, and recent Harvard graduate Erinn Westbrook. Look for her to be a recurring character, and to appear in plenty of scenes with returning Glee guest star Roz Washington (NeNe Leakes).
