Not everyone who struggles with addiction will look like a stereotypical drug addict... and Glee star Cory Monteith (Finn) is proof of that. On August 1, Fox president Kevin Reilly spoke about the late Glee actor, who passed away just a few weeks ago of a heroin and alcohol overdose.

"Cory was a big open wonderful life force. He was not a problem. Everybody loved him. He didn't look like [an addict]; he looked straight as an arrow,”  Us Weekly reports Kevin saying. “He was very open about [drug use] in his past, not as open about it in the present."

Cory went to rehab for substance abuse issues in late March 2013, and completed treatment a month later. By all accounts, he seemed to be on the right track. No one seemed to expect that he would overdose.

"What we all said [at Cory's memorial service], what everybody knows, is you know, you see some people struggling with addiction. It's clear; they're very easily put in a category: Oh, he was dark. Oh, she was always a partier," Reilly continued.

He also stressed that Cory did not mean to end his life. He was actively fighting an addiction that ultimately got the best of him. "It was not intentional. It was an accident that happened to somebody struggling with an addiction," he explained. "I think that's what ultimately will become of this: illuminating that particular kind of addiction."

Kevin also praised Cory’s girlfriend, Lea Michele (Rachel), calling her a “pillar of strength” and an “extraordinary human being.” Though Lea has been grieving privately and spending her time surrounded by close friends, the Glee star also insisted that she wanted to get back to work on Season 5 as soon as it was time. She had her first day back at work the same day Kevin spoke to the press. Our hearts go out to Lea and the entire cast during this difficult time.
