After Cory Monteith’s (Finn) surprising death from a heroin overdose on July 13 there’s been an outpouring of kind words and fond memories about the Glee star. Most recently, Glee Season 4 guest star Nolan Gerard Funk (Warbler villain Hunter) shared his thoughts about working alongside the fellow Canadian actor.

“It’s just really upsetting. I feel really bad for his family. It’s just hard to, I mean, I understand how hard loss is,” Nolan told the Huffington Post.

“I didn’t know Cory extremely well but we’d known each other for a long time,” he said. “We both use to audition in Vancouver, (B.C.).” In fact, Nolan ran into Cory the day before he auditioned to join the cast of Glee.

“I didn’t even tell him I was going for the show because I didn’t really know I was going to get it. So he was a part of that experience for me,” the one-time Warbler explained.

Although the two didn’t work closely together on set, the veteran Gleek made an impression on the newer cast member.

“He was a really great guy,” Nolan said. “He never was causing problems. He never really let whatever he was struggling with kind of become a part of other people’s lives.”

Nolan first heard the news of Cory’s death late at night while in Seattle visiting friends. “Oh my God. Cory. Man. I can't. Praying for you man. You were a good soul,” Nolan tweeted that evening. He and the rest of the Glee crew began filming Season 5 yesterday with plans in the works for a special Cory tribute episode.
