UPDATE: TV Line reports that though Glee originally discussed including footage of Finn during the Cory Monteith tribute, Season 5, Episode 3: "The Quarterback," the show ultimately decided not to go that route. There will be no clip montage of old footage of Finn during any of the song performances. Are you upset about that decision... or are you actually a bit relieved?
On the one hand, we would have loved the chance to see Finn's face on the show one last time. On the other hand, with all the tear-jerking musical performances and heartbreaking scenes, this episode is going to be difficult to watch as it is. By not including footage of Cory, Glee is saving us even more extra tears. So maybe it could be a good thing?
Though Cory’s death makes it a necessity for Glee to write his character off the show, the Huffington Post reveals that producers are still hoping to include footage of the late actor during the Season 5, Episode 3 tribute that will be dedicated to him.
“It's a possibility because we do have some of that footage, but I can't speak to it because Ryan and the guys are working through it right now," Fox president Kevin Reilly said.
Right now, little is known about what the Glee’s Cory Monteith tribute will include. We do know that Finn will die, and that the circumstances around his death will “deal directly with drug abuse,” but it is still unclear whether or not Finn will die of an overdose, or if the drug-related scenario will involve other characters.
What we do know is that the episode will be accompanied by a series of drug-related PSAs from Ryan Murphy and various Glee actors.
Overall, we definitely hope that Glee will choose to include some previous footage of Cory in the episode. Whether in memories, flashback clips, or even never-before-seen clips — it’s clear that Cory’s presence will be felt deeply throughout the entire episode. We’d love to get the chance to see his face again one last time, too.
