It’s been widely reported that Amber Riley (Mercedes) and four other Glee originals won’t be series regulars on Glee Season 5, but that doesn’t mean you won’t see them again. In fact, it sounds like Mercedes will be returning to McKinley High as early as the Season 5 premiere.
On August 4, actress Amber Riley tweeted, “Fitting for #glee tomorrow…. Wonder what Mercedes is up to.” The cast has just started filming and recording songs for September 26’s season premiere, so it seems most likely that Amber’s preparations will be for that episode.
Of course, we shouldn’t expect her to stick around for too long. Like co-stars Heather Morris (Brittany), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Mark Salling (Puck) and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike), Amber will only appear in a limited capacity this season.
Thankfully, though, not all of the original seniors are going away. Lea Michele (Rachel) and Chris Colfer (Kurt) will always be the heart of the show. And by the sound of things, Naya Rivera (Santana) isn’t going anywhere, either!
On August 7, Naya tweeted, “Busy day today. Meetings then first day of shooting for #GleeSeason5 #santanasback” She’s not just doing costume fittings, she’s filming scenes for the show. And since we know that the premiere will be a Beatles-themed tribute episode, we can’t wait to hear Santana bring her own sassy flair to those familiar ‘60s tunes.
