It’s been a long, rough month for Lea Michele (Rachel) after her co-star boyfriend Cory Monteith (Finn) passing away suddenly of a drug overdose on July 13, but the Glee star made a brave move tonight and stepped back out into the spotlight at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles.
Lea made her first official public appearance since Cory’s death at the awards on August 11, 2013. Considering how recently Cory passed away, many people thought that Lea might skip the awards show. But the Glee star was determined to attend, despite all the painful memories of happier times.
Lea skipped the red carpet at the Sunday evening show, and was MIA while the rest of her cast was accepting their award for Choice TV Comedy. But she did make an appearance to accept the award for Choice TV Actress: Comedy, and she took to the stage to accept her award.
Wearing a playful pink dress, Lea seemed cheery and upbeat. But as soon as she began to speak, it was clear that she was on the verge of tears. An emotional Lea thanked Glee fans for all of their support during this difficult time after Cory’s death, and tearfully remembered her late boyfriend, highlighting in particular his kindness, compassion, and his smile.
No doubt this time has been extremely painful for Lea. People reports that Lea is finding life without her longterm boyfriend to be “incredibly painful” and that just getting up in the morning is a reminder for the Glee star that Cory is gone. The strength that Lea shows on a daily basis is just astounding to us.
