The very last movie Cory Monteith (Finn) filmed before his untimely death of a heroin and alcohol overdose on July 13 just booked a September 2013 film festival premiere date, and now we have an official photo from the film.
Cory played a drug addict in his final role — but just because the Glee star struggled with addiction, don’t think that he and his movie character are any sort of twins. In the indie drama McCanick, Cory played a drug-addicted street hustler named Simon Weeks. Simon is a recently-released convict who sets off a string of violent events that send two policemen on a frenzied hunt to catch him.
The photo shows Cory taking on a character unlike anything we have ever seen from him before. He’s wearing a wig of long, greasy, stringy hair. His clothes are baggy and dull; he’s wearing both an oversized coat and a hoodie.
It’s so far from the clean-cut and smiling Finn Hudson we fell in love with on Glee, yet part of us knows that the truth of Cory’s struggles with addiction makes him closer to Simon than most people ever would have thought. (Minus the criminal record. And the hair. And the violence. Obviously.)
Still, its a reminder that a person who looks so clean-cut can struggle with inner demons just as much as the greasy guy on the street. Addiction can be an issue for anyone. You don’t have to look like the stereotypical street addict.
