Before his sudden and unexpected death of a heroin and alcohol overdose on July 13, Glee’s Cory Monteith (Finn) starred in feature film McCanick. Now the movie has released its official trailer, providing further proof of what a talented actor the world lost last month.

McCanick, which premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, features Cory as a drug addict named Simon Weeks. A former convict, Simon has a secret for which two top policemen are willing to kill. The fast-paced drama cast Cory alongside the likes of Hollywood heavy hitters Ciarán Hinds and David Morse, a clear departure from the more lighthearted work the Canadian actor became famous for on Glee.

In addition to the trailer, an official photograph of Cory’s character in the movie has also been released. Honestly, if we didn’t know it was him, we wouldn’t have recognized the All-American, cleancut football hunk known as Finn.

Taking on McCanick was just one of several steps Cory was recently making as he moved forward in his acting career. He also appeared in the indie dramedy All the Wrong Reasons, which will also premiere at TIFF next month.

As much as it pains us to see such talent lost, Cory’s final onscreen performances give us even more to treasure from his too brief career. Share your thoughts below.
