On Monday, news broke that pop princess Demi Lovato had booked a 6+ episode arc on Glee Season 5. Well, probably. According to the report, Demi hadn’t signed on so far. But Naya Rivera (Santana) welcomed her to the show on Twitter, so we figured the reports couldn’t be too far off.

Now co-star Lea Michele (Rachel) has also spoken out on Twitter to confirm Demi’s casting.

Demi will play Dani, an up-and-coming singer in NYC who will be friends with both Rachel and Santana. We already know that Dani and Santana will be singing a Beatles duet in Glee in Season 5, Episode 2.

But who is Phoebe Strole? The 30-year-old Texan is Broadway veteran who co-starred alongside Lea and Jonathan Groff in the 2006 Broadway musical Spring Awakening. She played the role of Anna, and understudied for both the roles of Ilse and Lea’s Wendla.

This is the first we’ve heard of her casting, so we don’t have any details about what character she might be playing. However, based on previous information about still-to-be-cast Glee roles, we have a feeling she might be either Julie/Jenny, a “cute and quirky” NYC 20-something or Ryan, a NYC 20-something who must be able to sing or play guitar. (Though, it’s worth noting that character names often change during casting, so Demi’s Dani could also be the newest version of either of these two roles.)

We’re excited that the Demi news is finally official. And we kind of love that Ryan Murphy chose to cast two of Lea’s closest friends on the show this year. It’s going to be a difficult season for Lea, no doubt — we’re glad she can spend it surrounded by the people closest to her!
