This week, Glee will be filming Season 5, Episode 3: “The Quarterback” — a tribute to honor the late Cory Monteith (Finn), who passed away suddenly in July. Needless to say, filming this episode will be extremely difficult on the cast and crew. Cory was like a brother to them. Saying goodbye is tough enough. Spending a whole week saying goodbye on film? We can’t even imagine.

“It’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to me,” Naya Rivera (Santana) told E! Online at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on August 25. “It’s the hardest thing to do. It’s the worst week ever.”

Her co-star Darren Criss (Blaine) echoed that sentiment. “We’re shooting right now. Its tough to shoot. But I think it’s something that needs to happen for fans,” he said.

Good for fans: yes. Good for the healing process: yes. But easy to film: not in the least. “I don’t know, it’s going to be tough,” he said. “It will be very poignant and hopefully moving, and just that: a tribute, a good tribute to Cory.”

Though Finn will die in the Cory Monteith tribute episode, Glee creator Ryan Murphy has said that his cause of death will be kept intentionally vague. And though Cory’s real-life girlfriend Lea Michele(Rachel) will be in the episode, she won’t appear until the final act. Her role is said to be small but powerful.

Glee’s Cory Monteith tribute episode will air in October 2013.
