Amber Riley (Mercedes Jones) might not be a series regular on Glee this year, but that doesn’t mean that her life is slowing down one bit. On August 28, Wetpaint Entertainment exclusively broke the news that Amber has been tapped to join the cast of a major network reality competition show.
This news has not yet been confirmed — since the show won’t make its official casting announcements until September 4 — but an inside source confirms to Wetpaint that Amber is a very likely contender for the upcoming season.
This morning, Amber wrote on Instagram, “HUGE announcement next week hehehehehe! Can't wait to share y'all.”
The 27-year-old won’t be in every episode of Glee Season 5. She, Heather Morris (Brittany), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Mark Salling (Puck), and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) will now only be returning as occasional guest stars. However, you will see her on Glee very soon.
Amber is back for October 10’s Glee Season 5, Episode 3: “The Quarterback,” a tribute to the late Cory Monteith (Finn), who passed away suddenly on July 13. Through Twitter, we already know that Mercedes will have a solo during the episode, and it’s sure to be extremely emotional.
“thank you :)” she tweeted on August 26 to a Glee musician who complimented her vocals on the song. “you guys are the best. Your faces made it a little easier. Love you.”
