It’s safe to assume that Glee Season 5 will be all about staying strong and fighting back when things get tough. And what song is more fitting for such a situation than one of Katy Perry’s trademark self-empowerment anthems?
TV Line is reporting that Glee will indeed be doing Katy’s newest hit at some point during the upcoming season. “Rumor has it that a cover of Katy Perry's smash single ‘Roar’ will be prominently featured in a fall episode,” TV Line says.
So we know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “Glee is covering Katy Perry? Huh — first time for everything.” Just kidding; you’re not thinking that. After all, Glee has already covered “Firework,” “I Kissed a Girl,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” done two different versions of “Teenage Dream,” and has had “California Gurls” playing in the background of one scene. So what’s wrong with one more to add to the list?
We love the idea of “Roar” getting performed on Glee — but we're not sure yet which episode is will be in. Episode 1 and 2 will only consist of Beatles songs, while Episode 3 is the Cory Monteith. It's possible that it could be in the Cory tribute, but our bet is that "Roar" will surface later in the season, after Glee takes its post-Episode 3 mini-hiatus.
But when it does happen, which character will be singing? The song is something of a post-breakup anthem, so it might be appropriate for someone in New Directions, like maybe Marley (Melissa Benoist). Or we could see Santana (Naya Rivera) doing a bang-up job with it as well — not that we’re ready for her and new love interest Dani (Demi Lovato) to be on the outs anytime soon, mind you.
Then again, which Glee character doesn’t have the eye of the tiger? With lines about going from zero to hero, this song is basically tailor-made for this show!
