Dianna missed much of Glee Season 4 due to her filming schedule for the mob movie The Family, which co-stars Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer and hits theaters today. Dianna plays the daughter of a mob boss, and her character does unspeakable things to people with tennis rackets.
It's understandable that Glee fans will be curious whether it was worth it for her to miss so much time from the show, especially since she won't appear much in Season 5 either. The verdict? Dianna may want to close her ears, as critics haven't been exactly enamored with the film. The Family currently holds a 31 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with only 26 percent of "top critics" giving it a thumbs-up. Yikes.
What went wrong? Most critics seem to take issue with the fact that it bounces around tonally between light-hearted comedy and extreme violence. However, Dianna can take heart in knowing that even the more negative reviews tend to praise the film's acting.
Indeed, The Hollywood Reporter calls it "very much a hit-and-miss affair," but the review actually singles out Dianna for praise! "Agron, best known as the head cheerleader on Glee, matches up well with Pfeiffer and savors a rare opportunity to play the bad girl," the reviewer says. Way to go, Dianna!
The film's opening weekend box office tally may also reflect the subpar notices. The Hollywood Reporter estimates that the film will only make around $13 million this weekend, which would put it way behind fellow newcomer Insidious 2, which is expected to scare up roughly twice as much moolah as Dianna's movie.
All things considered, this may not be the film that skyrockets Dianna to the film star A-list, but it also won't tarnish her reputation either. And with a high-profile role in a De Niro movie under her belt, we think Dianna's career is definitely on the rise. We continue to wish her the best! And we think Sue Sylvester would be proud of her former Cheerio.
