Glee’s Season 5 Beatles tributes will feature plenty of the band’s upbeat music, but that doesn’t mean it’s all sunshine all the time. Some of the tunes will take a more somber note. Take, for example, this performance of “Let It Be” from Season 5, Episode 2: “Tina in the Sky With Diamonds.”

The song is split between New York City and Ohio.  Rachel (Lea Michele), Santana (Naya Rivera) and Kurt (Chris Colfer) sing parts from the Big Apple, while Kitty (Becca Tobin) and Artie (Kevin McHale) take the lead vocals over in Lima, with the entire New Directions backing them up.

Our big question now: What various circumstances could be leading so many people to sing this mournful tune? Rachel starts it off. “When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom: Let it be.”

We know her Broadway audition in Episode 1 did not go well. Will she continue to get even more bad news in Episode 2? Could she potentially even have learned for good that the role of Fanny is going to someone else?

Santana, too, appears to be struggling. “And in my hour of darkness, she is standing right in front of me, speaking words of wisdom: Let it be.” We hope she’s only upset about the troubles with her TV acting career, because we would hate to think Santana and her new love interestDani (Demi Lovato), are having problems already.

Artie and Kitty pick it up from back in Ohio. “And when the brokenhearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer: Let it be.” Unless these two lovebirds are having relationship issues, we’d venture a guess that Kitty’s quest to win Prom Queen didn’t go over too well.

Kurt, too, chimes in closer towards the end. “And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me, shining ‘til tomorrow: Let it be.”

Such sad thoughts for so many of our favorite characters. Whatever their struggles are, we hope things work out for them all in the end.
