We sadly won’t see Finn Hudson in any new scenes on Glee Season 5, as actor Cory Monteith passed away just days before the show was scheduled to begin filming. However, we will get a previously unseen Finn scene on the Glee Season 4 DVD set, which will be released on October 7, just two days before Glee airs its October 10 tribute episode to Cory.

The scene was filmed for Season 4, Episode 9: “Swan Song,” but it never aired. It deals with the aftermath of New Directions getting eliminated at Sectionals, as Schue (Matthew Morrison) joins Finn to lift weights on campus. Schue explains that he’s moving the glee stuff including all their trophies to his home, now that the club no longer has a classroom.

We love this scene, not only because we relish any new Finn footage, but also because this particular scene reminds of us the passion and integrity that the character always exhibited. “Those trophies represent everything we’ve worked so hard to achieve for three years — the blood, the tears, the sweat,” Finn tells Schue. “If we take those down, that’s like surrendering.”

Then, the scene gets even more emotionally raw when Finn nobly takes the blame for glee club’s loss. “Can we just cut the crap?” Finn asks Schue. “Just say it: You want to punch me in the face! I know you think it’s my fault that we blew it. You never would have let us leave that stage.” Luckily, Schue doesn’t punch him but admits, “I deserted you guys.”

Just seeing this one brief scene reminds us of how talented and powerful Finn was as an actor. It really isn’t fair that we had to lose him so soon, but we certainly will never forget him or his amazing gifts.
