It almost seems wrong to write that: Happy Anniversary. After watching every heartbreaking minute as yesterday’s Glee’s Season 5, Episode 3 tribute to the late Cory Monteith (Finn)... we just don’t feel like using the word “happy” in conjunction with Glee right now.

The cast and crew of the long-running Fox show are still coping with the loss of their quarterback and leading man, who passed away unexpectedly on July 13. They honored him with an emotional tribute episode on October 10.

One day later, October 11, marked the five-year anniversary of when most of the Glee cast filmed their first scenes for the pilot. In times like this, we’d usually look back over how much has changed in five years. But this time, we don’t really want to.

Five years ago, Cory was still alive. Five years ago, he had his whole life ahead of him. Five years ago, his girlfriend, Lea Michele (Rachel), had no idea about the life-changing amount of pain that was in store for her.

But while we’re feeling down about the whole thing, other members of the cast are trying to keep a more positive outlook. Original cast members Kevin McHale (Artie) and Amber Riley (Mercedes) had a lighthearted exchange about it on Twitter.

Lea Michele, who tweeted last year to mark Glee’s four-year anniversary, kept noticeably silent. In times like these, celebrating milestones like this one has to feel bittersweet. #RIPCory
