Without a doubt, Glee’s October 10 Cory Monteith tribute: “The Quarterback,” was the most difficult hour of television we’ve sat through in a long time. The usually cheery show put its jazz hands and bright grins on hold, instead spending the somber episode to take an emotional, reflective look back on the life of a beloved friend gone too soon.

Glee is on hiatus until November 7, but when the show returns for Season 5, Episode 4: “A Katy or a Gaga,” creator Ryan Murphy promises fans are in for a much more upbeat experience.

“I wanted to do something that was maybe a little more inspirational, because that was so hard on the cast,” Ryan recently told TVLine. “So we did something that [features] a lot of costumes, a lot of great set pieces.”

We know the great things Glee did with its crazy costumes for Gaga’s “Bad Romance” back in Season 1, so we can’t wait to see what the show has in store for us this time around. We’ve already seen a teaser from the show’s cover of Lady Gaga’s “Applause” and Katy Perry’s “Roar,” and we’re pretty sure they won’t disappoint.

For this more upbeat, “inspirational” episode, Ryan says the Glee kids will be “trying to figure out who they are as artists.” From the episode’s promo, we also know that the McKinley side of things will feature a Will vs. Emma battle, one we’re assuming will also take the form of Katy vs. Gaga.

May the best pop diva win.
