Could we soon be saying goodbye to McKinley for good on Glee? There have long been rumors to suggest that this might happen, but new comments from a Glee star are making us wonder if a permanent switch to NYC is indeed in the cards.
So far in Season 5, Emma has only been seen in the Cory Monteith tribute, and we already know she won’t return at all for Season 6. Sob. We initially assumed this was actress Jayma Mays’s choice, since she stars on a new hit sitcom, The Millers. But Jayma actually says that the show is giving her the boot.
“It wasn’t my choice,” she tells the UK’s Metro about leaving Glee. “The creators decided to do it.”
“We knew it was coming last year — some other characters will also be leaving this season,” she reveals. “It’s very sad to be going but I understand why they do it. It’s about getting new blood into the show.”
But what exactly will happen to Emma? And does this mean that it’s — gasp! — curtains for her marriage to Schue? Unfortunately, Jayma admits she’s as much in the dark as we are. “I really enjoyed playing Emma,” she says. “I don’t know how I’m written out yet — I’m so curious.”
So what do we make of all this? Well, the need to get rid of Emma completely makes us indeed wonder whether the show really will be taking place solely in NYC in Season 6, as Fox head honcho Kevin Reilly had hinted at prior to this season. This could be an exciting new path for the show, but it would be weird to not see the choir room anymore.
And which other characters will be getting the boot? We know we won’t see much of the previously graduated New Directions members like Puck, Mercedes, and Quinn this season, and now it sounds like some of the kids who are about to graduate might be gone, too. But which ones? (Please not Blaine, please not Blaine…) We hate when you tease us, Jayma.
