We’ve loved all the new characters we’ve met thus far on Glee Season 5, including adorable Dani (Demi Lovato) and competitive Bree (Erinn Westbrook). And we’ll be meeting one more newbie in Season 5, Episode 4: “A Katy or a Gaga” when American Idol alum Adam Lambert joins the NYC fray as Elliott “Starchild” Gilbert. So what can we expect from this character?

Adam tells The UK’s Press Association that his character will be auditioning for the Madonna cover band that Kurt (Chris Colfer), Santana (Naya Rivera), and Dani are putting together. And while you might think that any group would love to have someone as gifted as Adam in its midst, you’d be wrong.

“I’m playing a kid with big dreams he actually reminds me of myself like seven years ago,” Adam explains. “He comes to an audition in full costume and makeup and really over the top, and he gets cut because he’s told that it’s too much. So I can kind of relate to that.” Let’s just hope he gets a second chance.

As for his song selection, Starchild will be singing Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night” at the ill-fated audition, and it appears to involve some chandelier-swinging. “I’m singing a Gaga song it was really fun,” Adam adds. “It’s very kitsch, it’s very tongue-in-cheek.

It has been rumored that Starchild will be Kurt’s rival, but Adam tells Entertainment Weekly that this might not always be the case for the two characters. “As far as the character goes, at first Kurt and Starchild don’t quite click, but then they click,” he promises. “It’s definitely a work in progress.”

Adam is clearly an ideal fit for Glee, so we can’t wait to see his character in action. Let’s just hope that chandelier is firmly attached to the ceiling.
