Does Glee star Chris Colfer (Kurt) need to start learning the lyrics to the Beatles hit “Back in the USSR” immediately? It may seem that way, depending on how much you believe a bizarre rumor that Glee is heading to Russia. Yes, Russia.
A lot of eyebrows got raised this week when a source appears to have told E! News, “We are mulling around the idea of moving Kurt (Chris Colfer) to Russia.” Looks like Kurt is going to have to put on his papakha — it’s those furry Russian hats, in case you didn’t know — and start browsing the Russian version of Craigslist for a new apartment.
Or is he? If you ask us, this comment about Russia was intended as a joke, given the recent hard-line stance the nation has taken lately in resistance to LGBT issues. With Glee likely to move to NYC this season, we’re guessing Russia was thrown in as a tongue-in-cheek alternative.
Still, that doesn’t mean Chris isn’t weighing in on the rumor. First, a show crew member who works on behind-the-scenes content tweeted:
To which Chris responded:
Okay, so Chris and Kalen are clearly laughing off this rumor. But to play devil's advocate, if Ryan Murphy was still pondering the idea and hadn't written any scripts yet, it's entirely possible that neither of them would know about it anyway. Still, the fact that neither of them is taking this seriously seems like a good thing, if you ask us. It’s been hard enough for the show to have characters in two different parts of the country, let alone putting someone on the other side of the planet. But we still like seeing Kurt in those furry hats.
