We've heard some crazy rumors about supposed Glee storylines over the years, but the rumor that circulated last week about Kurt (Chris Colfer) apparently moving to Russia later in Season 5 has got to be the craziest in a while. Like, what?! Now, we're getting the definite word from Darren Criss (Blaine) on whether this is actually happening.
The drama started last week, when a Glee source supposedly blabbed to E! News, “We are mulling around the idea of moving Kurt (Chris Colfer) to Russia.” Cue the sound here of us scratching our heads at this mind-bogglingly bizarre plot twist.
So what would be the reason for Kurt to head to Russia? We don't know, and Chris didn't seem to know either. "Maybe Kurt is Anastasia!" Chris tweeted last week after getting wind of the rumor.
Luckily, we can now all take a deep breath, as the rumor has officially been debunked. When asked about the rumor, Darren tells People's Choice Buzz Blog, "Kurt is not moving to Russia." Phew!
This is definitely a relief. Sure, we're all about Kurt seeing the world, but how can Kurt and Blaine get married if Kurt is off on the other side of the world? He can't.
And why exactly did this rumor get started in the first place? Well, Russia has recently been getting press for its hard-nosed stance against LGBT issues, so we're guessing the Kurt-to-Russia twist was bandied about as a joke and accidentally got taken seriously by someone.
Long story short: If Chris has feverishly spent the past week memorizing all the lyrics to "Back in the USSR," we're thinking it's now safe for him to stop.
