All things considered, Lea Michele has handled the death of boyfriend Cory Monteith with nothing but poise, and with the world watching — even we can’t imagine what kind of strength she must possess to make that happen.

And where the Glee cast is concerned, when Matthew Morrison sat down with Elle to talk about his holiday album, he revealed that she’s been “the strongest one of all.”

“It definitely hit her the hardest,” Matthew said. “There were a lot of times when different people would go to her house. Everyone was on watch with her, and we would just kind of take care of her, making sure she was okay.”

We’re not surprised that the cast has been there for each other through such a tough time, and we’re glad to know Lea has a solid support system backing her up the whole way. According to Matthew, the experience has helped Lea become even stronger and gain “a better sense of self.”

And, Matthew adds, Lea owes a lot of her strength to Cory, who had a lot to do with her becoming the person she is today.

“I think Cory was someone who was such a great influence on her life and such a positive person for her to be around,” he said. “They really helped each other grow. So it is great to see her keep that same sensibility of what he brought to her and keep him alive through her actions.”
