Recently, the multi-talented Matthew Morrison (Will Schuester) sat down with Elle to talk about his upcoming holiday album — and the changes in the Glee cast since Cory Monteith’s death in July 2013.

According to Matt, there’s been a major shift in the way the set feels. Really, how could there not be with such a huge part of the cast missing? And although everyone is slowly adjusting, at first, filming Glee without Cory seemed impossible.

“I knew it was going to be hard. I didn’t think it was going to be that hard — just opening up those fresh wounds that we had about Cory,” Matthew said.

But now that the hard part “is kind of behind [them],” Matthew and the rest of the cast are able to have a more positive outlook on the remaining year and a half of Glee ahead.

“I think we are all refocused and able to move forward, in a better, more positive way,” he added. “We have a better outlook on things now, and we are a lot closer as a cast than we have ever been. There is a great energy on set. I feel Cory's presence is still there, and we kind of have a new motivation for this season and obviously for the rest of the run: to do it for him.”

That sounds a little like a Mr. Schue response to us, doesn’t it? Elle thought so, too.

“See?” Matt said. “Sometimes he seeps into things and I can’t help it.”
