Ever since we'd gotten word that Glee's Season 5 Christmas episode would be some sort of "lost" episode, we've been totally intrigued. Like, how far back of a flashback would this episode be? Well, we're now getting answers to that and a whole lot more.

Fox has released its official synopsis of Season 5, Episode 8: "Previously Unaired Christmas," which airs on December 5. Here's what we have to look forward to:

Sue Sylvester introduces the episode as a Christmas special that FOX did not allow to air last year, in which the members of New Directions audition for roles in McKinley’s living Nativity Scene. Meanwhile, in New York, Rachel, Kurt, and Santana work as Santa’s elves at a mall.

Interesting, right? We're curious as what Sue's (Jane Lynch) explanation will be for why Fox supposedly didn't air this episode. After all, Glee did in fact air a Christmas episode last season, called "Glee, Actually," and it was pretty darn enjoyable. Translation: We still miss you, Rory (Damian McGinty).

The fact that the episode takes place a year ago explains why Rachel (Lea Michele), Kurt (Chris Colfer), and Santana (Naya Rivera) are working as sexy mall elves, as they have not yet gotten their jobs at the Spotlight diner. But wait  didn't Santana not actually move to NYC until Season 4, Episode 13: "Diva," which aired in February 2013? Hmm. We suppose she might have visited Rachel and Kurt for the holidays, but it's weird to get a job at a city that you're just visiting.

We also know that Puck (Mark Salling) should be stopping by during the Christmas episode. Again, the one-year flashback helps explain his presence, since he would not have yet joined the Air Force.

We should point out that, once this episode airs, we won't get another new Glee episode until spring 2014, which is a loooong time to wait. Still, we have a feeling that this awesome-sounding Christmas episode will sufficiently tide us over until the show returns.
