Remember last year when Fox News personality Bill O'Reilly said that Glee could cause "dopey" kids to experiment with their gender identity? Well, Glee star Alex Newell (Unique) hasn't forgotten either.

As you may recall, Bill spoke about Glee back in April 2012, saying that showing transgender characters sets a bad example. "If you make it glamorous in a program like Glee, which is undeniably a good program… a lot of these dopey kids are confused about who they are," Bill said. "They’re confused." Okay, then.

Now, Alex tells Fusion that Bill was off-base. "It’s wrong to call people 'dopey,'" Alex says. "When it’s something this poignant and such a big part of the society, you can’t call kids 'dopey' because this is something that they’re actually going through."

"This is what they feel on the inside  there’s nothing dopey about it," Alex adds.

Alex also says that he feels it's a compliment when people wonder if he is transgender, as Unique is. "Some people don’t understand that I do play a character,” he said. “I must be doing it well if they really think that I’m living my character’s life."

We admire Alex for speaking out on behalf on Glee fans everywhere.
